we drive our cars every day down the same roads every day knowing that each tree we pass could be our last. you can learn more about people in a rear view mirror than face to face. and yes, things may appear closer than they are, but arent they? life can catch up to you in an instant, and then maybe you would wish that it had appeared closer than it was. knowing that the hand inside your hand wishes it were touching another is worse than having no hands at all. and you may pretend that you arent aware, but when your eyes meet hers, i know thats where they lie. but we are a society that lives day by day. and so someone to hold on to becomes someone who'll hold you on for a night or two before letting go. and this becomes the norm and we agree, holding our well-lit cigarettes, that men are about as significant as the protection they slip on and off for reassurance. and we reassure ourselves that this is ok, this has to be ok. toothbrushes are now pieces of paper that we rip slip brush and dispose of, and so this has to be ok. and if not then we'll make it ok. because i dont think theres any other way i know how to live.
