Well, the good Captain is an one-of-a-kind character, and the same goes for Willy Wonka. :-D I, too, like Gilbert Grape - it's a great story and I adored not only Johnny as the title hero, but Leonardo DiCaprio as his mentally disabled brother.
I'll admit that I also have mixed feelings when it comes to Peter Pan; I didn't know about Barrie being an anorectic (it fits the picture though), but I always feel slightly uncomfortable about the fact that someone refuses to grow up. From Wikipedia: "Peter Pan syndrome is a pop-psychology term used to describe an adult who is socially immature. The term has been used informally by both laypeople and some psychology professionals in popular psychology since the 1983 publication of The Peter Pan Syndrome: Men Who Have Never Grown Up, by Dr. Dan Kiley." I'm not sure if it makes sense to declare it a "Syndrome", but it certainly is not the best for one's health to refuse the natural flow of development. Growing up means to leave childhood behind, someday.
Perhaps I will go and see Gilliam's new film in the cinema. It sounds interesting.
