Whiteling, that is FANTASTIC! These images take my breath away - becuase of your artistic virtuosity and the stormy, broody intensity of the piece. The portrait reminds me of portraits of Beethoven, actually, a pretty stormy artist in his own right. I saved the images to my "Whiteling" file, in all three sizes and details.

WOW!

I loved that excerpt you included by Sondheim; I had never read it. I loved Sweeney on Broadway with George Hearn back in 1980 or whenever it was, and I haven't wanted to see this film because of the gore, as you know. But your review makes me want to see it.

Oh, thank you very much, Mechtild! :-)
Yep, it was exactly this "stormy, broody intensity" of Depp's performance that made me want to draw it, digest it, feel it. It's great that the effort I put in the piece does show. Beethoven fits very well, not only with all the wild hair but with his grim facial expression. When hubby saw the first draft of the drawing he said: "Goethe?" Ha! How funny. I kept calling the artwork "Sweeney Goethe" from then on.

Maybe you will see the film on DVD... someday?

I posted a Beethoven picture in my reply to Wendy below. It looks as if Sweeney Todd was Beethoven's illegitimate child! LOL!

Happy Easter to you and your family, Mechtild!

That's great! (Regarding the Beethoven picture.) You're right, it's not that they actually look like each other, it's "aura", or presentation.

Again, opening up your LJ to answer your comment, I thought, "WHAT A PICTURE!!!!"
