Where are my priorities?
Yesterday I received an e-mail from a former colleague from DTE. He was inviting me out to the Corporate Safety Comerica Park outing today because they had an extra ticket and everyone in the department wanted to catch up with me.
I couldn't go today because I have a lab training course to attend for the research I am doing this year in school. It is not offered for another month.
Right now I am wishing that I would have canceled the training and went to Detroit. I am feeling this way not because I would rather be at a Tiger's game, but because I feel like I am missing out on a huge networking opportunity that could benefit me when I need a job in 7 months. I question which is more important: Networking in the real world now, or building my resume with research experience and a potential letter of recommendation so I can sell myself later.
For the record, I would rather be at a Tigers' game.
