Daniel had a lot on his mind and in his heart. Being near Emily his feelings for her were even more apparent than before. Yet, despite this he realized at times he would still have occaisional feelings for Jessica. He found this to be odd and disturbing. For months, since he stopped seeing Jessica, he dated no one else. His friends had tried to introduce other women to him while he was out having a laugh in the pub but, Daniel despite thinking they were attractive or interesting, never followed through and asked any of them out on a date. Something inside him kept nagging.
One weekend when there was no filming, he decided to relax, stay home and try to sort out his thoughts. He wanted to be very honest with himself. He stayed in his room, door shut, listening to music softly playing as he tried to get himself together. What came to him was disturbing. He realized that he was still hoping Jessica would change. He was holding on to this tattered, worn idea that deep down, Jessica really loved him. He also felt that he had feelings more than physical ones for her as well. He recalled their times together. She was a very beautiful woman. Her looks attracted him and her personality seemed to be compatable with his but, as time went on, she slowly started to treat him differently. He just could not understand why this change happened. He tried then to blame himself.
"I wonder if she got fed up with waiting around for me as I was filming? We'd only see one another then on the weekend and even then, that was short as Saturday nights starting late rolled in to Sundays. Then Monday, I'd be off again. And with such a short time, we mostly just were alone together, either at her flat or my bedroom. Maybe that's why she strayed?"
But still, something inside of him was adding to his confusion.
A few weeks before he met Emily, Daniel again tried sorting through his feelings for Jessica. He concluded he was in love with her and perhaps Jessica did still have feelings for him. And then the phone call came.
Jessica phoned Daniel one Saturday night. She talked with him as if nothing had ever happened. She asked if she could come by and talk. Daniel hesitated but, then quickly agreed only if he could come to her flat for the visit. Something went off in him.
He recalled staying the night with her, he felt he needed to be with her but, by morning he realized his feelings were even more confused. Jessica during the evening did the same as before. She treated him with a friendly, sweet way only to slowly change after she had her way with him towards the wee hours of Sunday morning. He asked her if she missed him, his heart was hanging on to that shred of hope she would want him, yet in his mind, he could not imagine why. She never answered him. She avoided the question by acting annoyed with him. Finally, Daniel got ready and left to go back home. He was just as confused when he left as he came because now he ached for her.
These thoughts had surfaced as he shared the laughter with Emily. He looked in to her eyes and felt such warmth towards her. Despite this, those feelings for Jessica surfaced slowly. As Daniel lay next to Emily, he thought about it all and started to dream . . .
He saw himself with Emily and seeing her say goodbye. She had decided to go back to America to live despite finding a good job and even finding a flat of her own. She wanted to make it on her own and felt she would do better if she was back from where she came from. Daniel felt crushed and confused.
Emily had been watching him sleeping and noticed now that Daniel could be dreaming. She smiled down at him and watched his face for a moment. Emily was admiring his good looks then and she noticed Daniel's breathing started to quicken. He turned his head to the side and seemed to be upset. He let out a little sigh, then a moan as if he was upset by something.
"Dan?" Emily softly spoke to him as he had started to turn his head towards her in his sleep, clearly he was having what seemed to be a disturbing dream.
"Daniel?" she said in a normal volume and stroked his cheek.
"Please..." she heard him beg.
"Daniel, wake up." Emily did not want him to continue in the state he was in.
"Daniel please wake up. I'm here. Don't worry." Emily now getting upset but, soon she saw Daniel's eyes slowly open to focus on her.
"Blimey, I must have fallen asleep. I'm sorry, love." Daniel said looking at her then running his hand through his hair.
He lay there looking at her as the last scenes of his dream quickly faded from his mind's eye.
"Everything okay?" Daniel asked. He wondered why she was looking at him with this expression of worry.
"You were dreaming." Emily said.
"Yes, it faded pretty quickly." Daniel said.
"Are you okay?" Emily asked and she then reached out her hand to caress his arm.
Daniel still had in his head what he had dreamed but, did not know if he wanted to talk about this with Emily just yet. He was still not sure about his feelings despite the longing in him for her.
"Yes, I am. Sorry." Daniel started to sit up in the bed. Emily watched him.
"It's okay. I just didn't like seeing you upset by such a thing. That's why I woke you. Want to talk about it?" Emily offered.
"Um, not right now. Okay?" Daniel said and then added a grin hoping to stop any further inquiry.
"Sure. But, it seemed you were pretty upset. Come here then, I'd like to be near you." Emily was still feeling warm from watching him. She admired how his blue eyes looked so trusting but, there was something else coming from behind them. She could not figure out if he was still upset by the dream or just still a little sleepy. She decided to show him what was building in her heart these past days.
Emily slowly lowered her face near his and tilted her head to the side, she placed a soft kiss on Daniel's lips.
She felt him respond by brushing his lips against her's. Slowly she broke the kiss to look in to Daniel's eyes. She could feel the emotion welling up inside her for him. He smiled sweetly at her and let his eyes wander to her lips again, then back up to her eyes. She saw what she was hoping to see glimering in those blue eyes of his. Emily kissed him slowly again and she felt his hand reach over and stroke the back of her head. Emily then decided to let Daniel know she wanted more. She let her hand glide over his shoulder, down his arm slowly. She then reached his hip and caressed it. She let her palm glide over the top of his thigh and caress it slowly and tenderly. She felt him begin to breathe a little faster. She hesitated in moving closer to him as they lay on his bed together. Daniel responded by kissing her a little faster. She opened her lips as they kissed and moved in closer to his body. Daniel reached his arm around her, pulling her close.
She felt warmth flood from her heart, though her face and tingle in her lips. Daniel broke the kiss and looked at her through long lashes. She watched as he slowly took his hand to her shoulder and guided her to lay her head down on his pillow. Her heart raced.
Daniel stayed close beside her and traced her face with his fingertip. When it reached underneath her bottom lip, his eyes looked back into her's.
"I'm falling in love with you." Daniel whispered.
"Don't say anything right now. Just let me show you what I feel." Daniel added.
Emily's eyes widened slightly as she felt her heart catch fire. She watched as it seemed everything switched to a slow motion mode. She could see nothing but Daniel's face before her, his tender, intensive gaze on her. She could not move. She only let her eyes wander over him now, lost in a feeling she never had experienced in her life before. It was intoxicating and she gave in to what he had to bring.
