It's not that he can't percieve things. Grandpa can see things just fine.
It's that somehow, probably due to a stroke in the sight-processing center of his brain, his vision has been reversed. His vision has flipped left-right. It's still right-side up, but it's reversed. He could see his cereal bowl just fine. It just was sitting where it wasn't. His brain KNEW that it was on the left, but his eyes were saying it was on the right. That's what confused him.
This means that he needs to basically retrain his brain to perceive things as he views them. Left is now right, etc. He most likely will never be allowed to drive again, but walking through the house should become easier.
Anyone know of any clear-lens technology that would reverse an image? If this exists, then it would be a matter of getting him some glasses that do that. Because if the lenses reverse the image, he'll perceive it as non-reversed. Which means he can actually see straight again.
