Commercials

On Sundays I work at a teen center. My normal day begins there at 1 in the afternoon. I walk in, unlock the cabinets and the computers, then I sit down and turn on the afternoon football games. This is exactly what I did this past Sunday except things changed about half an hour into my shift. A mother with about 5 kids walked in the room. The kids ranged from around 8 to 12. Now normally I wouldn't let them in since it is a teen lounge and your supposed to be 13-18 to be in there but since it was a slow day I decided to give the mother a break and let the kids in. They began playing pool and air hockey and the mother noticed I was watching football. "Look kids he has football on so you can all watch the 49er game" At her advice the kids began to watch. About 10 minutes later a commercial came on. Immediately, the mother comes over to me and asks if there was something i could do about the commercials. With a confused look on my face I asked her to repeat herself to make sure I heard her correctly. I did, and she seriously wanted me to do something about the commercials that came on television. "Could you show different commercials or fade the television out when the commercials come on?" she asked. Perplexed, i said no sorry I have no control over that. She turned to the kids and told them they could watch the game but when the commercials came on they would have to look away. After they left I couldn't help but laugh. There is a wide variety of what commercials consist of and while there are many restraints that commercials have to follow they are allowed some leniency. Commercials about shows involving murders can be shown during prime time but a show about murders cannot. Its a strange way to go about things, but it also can provide a good laugh.
