Personality:

Bakura:
Ryou Bakura's most prominent trait, by far, is his politeness. In the Japanese, he adds the suffix -san to nearly everyone's names; which is generally equivalent to "Mr." or "Ms." In the dub, to emphasize this trait, he was given a British accent, and in another language dub he was given a southern one. He is kind and caring -- always willing to help those in need and try to cheer up a friend -- a bit on the shy side, and above all, mysterious. He seems to have issues making friends, let alone keeping them despite his benevolent attitude, though this is largely due to (mostly in the first series) his dark half causing trouble for him. Easily embarrassed, modest, bashful and albeit awkward at times; the latter stemming from the fact that most don't know how to respond to some of the strange things he states (though, not at all weird to him--- it's quite fascinating, in fact) such as having a fascination with the occult and his otherwise eyebrow-raising-worthy selection of cards in his deck (though, may or may not influenced by his dark half), most of which include themes of horror, anything necro, and other such obscenities that is joyfully edited out by 4Kids. Yes, his unhealthy fascination with it can be rather off-putting to others.

One of his biggest faults, however, is that he's naive and easy to manipulate. Ignorance is bliss, seems to be his main role in the show. He is entirely unaware of most of the things his dark half does -- and while he certainly doesn't enjoy being completely suppressed -- there doesn't seem to be the remarkable amount of worry that should come in the situation in which he is in. He is self-sacrificing, as proven a number of times the characters have faced in dire situations. With this, comes bravery. Bakura is brave, despite his timidity at times- and point-blank stating that he's frightened in situations and showing such fear (particularly, when it comes to heights). He comes through when it matters most and is willing to put himself in danger for others.

Pessimism is also a trait he harbors. Despite wishing the best for his friends and giving them hope when needed, he typically looks down on situations as the glass being half-empty, often seeing things as "hopeless" though often also being the voice of (at times, perhaps cynical--) reason. He's intelligent, studious and enjoys learning, though his grades are mediocre and do not show his full potential due to his circumstances. Though, he may come off as dumb to others due to his obliviousness in what is going around him at times, the fact that he more often then not cannot remember long-stretches of periods of time (his darker half can fully suppress memories of anything he does when in control, so he cannot help that much) though keen when it comes to strategy and other areas of arithmetic.

'Dark' Bakura:
Conniving. Malevolent. Ruthless. Exhibits all traits to be able to easily take advantage of someone, which as previously stated, makes it all the more easy to control his host. The two are almost virtual opposites. Dark Bakura will do anything to achieve his goals (his main one includes ruling the world and plunging it into eternal darkness), whether this means hurting, killing, or even doing harm to his host's body-- which, as seen a few times, he will not hesitate in doing. Pain doesn't bother him, and while self-inflicted he almost enjoys it. That said, he depends on his host's health for his existence, and if he is in a situation of where something life-threatening can occur he will take over - Not because he per-say, cares about his host, but rather does not want such an injury to fatally handicap the body. While in control of it, for whatever reason, the body is much stronger, quicker, able to deal with more damage than when his host is in control. Seeing others pain is his number one pleasure, torturing a victim before ending their life is something he has been known to do; purely for that reason, he sometimes prolongs someone's life just to see them in agony.

He hates being demanded of. It is much easier to hate anything than it is to like it. He is extremely prideful, in Japanese he refers to himself as 'ore-sama', showing his attitude that he believes he is above all others in terms of anything. He is rude, very short-tempered, easily miffed and frustrated with others. He expects people to do as he commands, a word-in edgewise and one would see his displeasure. Mortals are just so stupid to him; it has been a long time since he was one, and now that he has been 'immortal' finds them incredibly difficult to understand. Befriending someone is out of the question, if necessary, he would merely make it look that he is their friend and then proceed to use them. Everyone is a tool to him. He is partial to crime, and point-blankly just doesn't give a shit about rules and laws and humans and and their morals.

Being a malignant entity in both his past and present life, and possibly for all eternity for that matter, he considers himself 'one with the darkness' -- and quite frankly, is. A demon of sorts, his host had once believed that he could escape possession by taking shelter in a church; though, he was mistaken, as the light or holiness or anything of that sort does not affect him as would a traditional 'being of darkness'.

Bakura and his dark half share an unusual bond. While 'Dark' Bakura is said to only be able to reside in the Millennium Ring without his host, without his own physical body that had died and decayed long ago, it seems he is able to influence him even without Ryou Bakura wearing it. It will mysteriously find its way to him, and its voice and sub-conscious will will often ring through Ryou Bakura's ears without there being anyone to emit such things, without the Ring being anywhere near him. It somehow always manages to find its way back to him, and Ryou, for whatever reason, is always inclined to wear it. Dark Bakura is easily able to mimic his host's style of speech (seeing as they share the same larynx, this is not so difficult) and general personality, so sometimes it can be unclear as to who is actually in control. That, and Ryou Bakura actually sometimes will go along with his alter-ego's plans, often having no choice in the matter. If someone else were to wear the necklace, or someone who does not have extraordinary spiritual power and are able to control it, they would suffer an agonizing death on the spot -- basically being burned and torn from the inside-out until there is nothing left but a pile of useless flesh, with the Millennium Ring, untouched, glinting innocently upon it.

What your character can offer: Japanese and English, a sweet personality and a sadistic one, thievery, card games.

What items will they be bringing with them? The clothes he's wearing, a knife, his duel deck, and an ancient millennium ring.

Bakura:

"Ahh, I'm going to ace this!"

Bakura sat at his desk, books and papers scattered haphazardly across it, in the midst of tying a hachimaki around his head. Mental stimulation! He found the history and tradition surrounding the white strip of cloth fascinating, even meant to ward off evil spirits at some point. (Though, the other spirit dwelling within, unbeknown, was entirely unaffected). Japanese culture really was fascinating.

He stared down at the papers in front of him, expression one of utmost determination, pencil gripped in hand and ready to begin studying. Amane would be so proud; he made a mental note to write another letter to her later. School had been a struggle for him recently, having to transfer from school to school so often caused worry for his family. And then lips curled downward in a sudden frown, brows furrowed. All right, so these characters were unknown to him. So, he didn't know how to do that arithmetic. He must have missed the day the lecture had been given, evidently. The pendant hidden under his shirt seemed agree, what he thought it to give a shallow, if comforting, pulse. That object his father had given him from Egypt. He wore it because it reminded him of back home and his family, an object of nostalgia. Sometimes, he had to admit, he missed them.. But wait, what had he been doing to miss a day of lecture?

This would be all-nighter. The prior burst of excitement had quickly diminished. Maybe he should call Anzu for help? Yugi, maybe? They would know. But no, he didn't want to disturb them. It was already late, they'd probably be just getting to bed. And he didn't want to be a burden, either, it was enough that he--

A sudden tingling up his spine. The sensation of being watched.

Bakura turned sharply in his chair, as if expecting someone to be standing there, watching him. But no, nothing; just his room, looking as empty and average as ever. He lived alone, the doors were locked anyway. Yes, nothing to be---

...

'Dark' Bakura:
Studying? Really? Studying?

If only people saw things his way; nothing was to come from this. A waste of time. There were better things to do. Trouble to cause, things to mutilate, people that needed to die. This body only had so much stamina, so many years to live.

He took power without a second thought, suppressing the other's consciousness completely. His host wouldn't remember anything once he finished. The Millennium Ring materialized with a sinister glow from under his clothes and into view. Bakura -- but not -- stood, expression darkened and entire composure differentiated. He stood straighter, prouder, hair seemed slightly more disheveled and lifted with overwhelming spiritual energy. He could contain it if he wanted to, of course, but that was not yet necessary. The insignificant and minor changes of manner went hardly noticed-- even by his closet friends.

The pencil clattered to the floor, lead tip broke. And he untied and ripped that wretched thing from around his head, the worthless pieces of junk humans put their hopes into. Really. It too fluttered to the floor, of no use to him unless to strangle someone -- but there were better ways - more conventional and more painful - to get rid of someone.

Quickly, he opened and rummaged through a drawer to the left of the desk, before he drew out a short kitchen knife. Where he'd hidden it previously and where he'd expected it to be. The blade was sharp, sturdy, made of steel, slightly rusted near its handle. Yes, this was perfect-- nothing fancy or elaborate needed; just his style. The drawer was closed.

He spun around, knife gripped to his side instead of pencil, soon to be concealed given the circumstances, and exited the bedroom. The door slammed shut, the room left otherwise untouched in its previous state.

There would be no studying tonight.

[ voice ]

...

...A-Ah, hello? Is... this thing on?

[ some sounds of fumbling, the buttons being pushed. some more shuffling, and a distinct "ouch!" and a loud clatter, before the noises cease and he finds his voice once more. ]

...

Well, I'm not sure where I am... I'm in a hospital? A dark one. As to how I got here... Is... anyone there? Yugi? Jounouchi?.. Seto? Anyone?... Or am I alone? If... This thing works like I believe it does, then.. someone can hear me, right? Ahh, I hope not too many... Again, I-I don't know where I am, and ... I would like to go home, please.

[ ... so many questions, should be used to regaining consciousness in places he doesn't recognize, and yet... this place. Something's... off about it. ]

...

Please.

'Dark' Bakura:
[ video ]

[Silence. ]

...

[ Slight static, otherwise quiet. The noise of breathing. The room he is in is dark, the glow of the communicator's screen being the only sufficient source of light. Ryou Bakura's other half looms into the communicator, face illuminated as he scrutinized the device, eyes narrowed, an eyebrow raised in mock interest, and sneering with a general expression that says 'do not fuck with me'. Clearly not pleased with the current situation he is in. One that required an incredible change of plans, though he would start small and work quickly as he became more acquainted with the surroundings. He'd discovered enough through his host and the weeks they'd resided here, and for the moment, trivialities aside, knew what was to be expected of this place. But there were some things... ]

...

So... Would anyone be so kind as to tell me where a boy named 'Yugi Motou' is?
