Went to Balitmore 2 weekends ago.. A strange trip.. We saved about $250 to $300 each by flying out of Columbus instead of Cincinnati... But here is the fucked up part.. We drove up 71 to Columbus.. We flew back down 71 to Cincinnati, so low in fact I saw my work (frtio dc) from the plane.. Then.. we flew back north up 71 over Columbus (I saw 71 and various landmarks from the plane window..) and on to Baltimore..
We took a cab to our hotel.. our cabby was crazy.. The air freshener scent was so strong my dad opened his window.. and I think I almost passed out trying to hold my breath.. He also did about 90 MPH down the highway.. On the way back to the airport, our fare was $1.60 taking the light rail.. which was $28 dollars cheaper than taking a taxi. Our hotel was across the street from Camden Yards (baseball stadium).. M&T Bank Stadium (for football) was on the other side of it.
We went to ESPNZone for dinner, and watched a couple of football games. There were a bunch of Bengals fans there... We also saw 2 guys we had seen at Columbus airport wearing Bengals gear again at ESPNZone. We lucked out and got a table near the bar for some dinner about 15 minutes after giving our names for the 2 hour waiting list. One guy came up and asked how we got our tickets.. Apparently theres a culture of travelling fans.. The 2 guys we saw at Columbus have gone to every Bengals game in the country, except for Jacksonville. The guy who asked about our tickets apparently lives in Oklahoma or something.. and travels to Columbus.. Cincinnati native, and has been to every game as well.
Our seats were club level... Their club level was nice.. indoor concessions with TVs and couches and stuff.. It was like that all the way around on that level, unlike Paul Brown Stadium (PBS) where there is just the midfield area indoors. We bought our tickets on Ebay.. The people who bought the seats next to us through ebay were also Bengals fans (who used to live in Cincy, but now live in Baltimore) and there was a big group of guys a couple rows up and over from us who were wearing Bengals stuff. Their stadium holds 70,000+ people (5,000 more than PBS) Luckily the Bengals won, or we probably would have been taunted a bit, but we went mostly unbothered. The guy behind me did get me to acknowledge a bad call (which it was bad.. I had no argument).. Those fans were really pissed at their own team who have only won 2 games.
Our flight was 2 hours and 15 minutes after the game was over, so we had plenty of time to walk back to the hotel to grab our bags, and ride the rail to the airport. We however had bad luck from there.. Apparently while we were loading in Baltimore.. A plane blew a tire on the runway at Detroit which is where we were headed, and proceeded to disallow any airplanes to land until it was fixed.. So we sat in line for the runway for like 20 minutes.. When we got to Detroit.. our 1 hour 30 minute layover became 3 hours 30 minutes as the plane we were waiting for was stuck in bad weather in Philadelphia... (the same storm that caused the tornado in Indiana, i think) So we didn't get home until like 2:30am.. It might have been quicker to rent a car and drive from Detroit to Columbus... So overall it was a fun trip.
