Its really sad when you see a class of 30 something college students fights each other over how many beans they can pick from the ground into a paper cup. Its even more sad when you realize you're in the class. The experiment was simple, the class is divided into 3 group, each with a different utensil, fork, spoon and spatula. The purpose is to scoop some scattered beans from the grass onto a paper cut. A demonstration of natural selection and such, spoon obviously have the edge. Whichever team gets the most beans after 1 min round 'win' and have little or no member of the team remove due to 'survival of the fittest'.
Needless to say this is the funniest thing our class has ever done. The first round went by fine, competitive but still friendly. But then people starts to see how others had done better and started to get a bit aggressive. It got to a point where people were shoving and elbowing each other to get at the beans, somebody even lied on the grass to stop others from getting any. Its really sad to see how we degraded so far after such a short time. We only did 4 rounds and it already turned bad. Lost a little faith in humanity today. It also kind of funny that 30 some highly educated college students can be turn into 3 years old in less than an hr. All you need is some plastic forks, spoons and spatulas (sporks if thats easier to find) to do it.
fyi, I'm some kind of savage bean picking machine, my average was 8, class average something like 4. I wonder if this is a good skill to have.
whale watching is fun, everyone should go at least once in their life.
