Ron Rhodes, changing your location
Acts 3:1-8
AC 3:1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer--at three in the afternoon. 2 Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
AC 3:6 Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Must have been many who passed him by
Beggar’s best thought was of money
“Look at me” calls attention. Beggar thinks he’s going to get some good money, gets something better.
Princess Di put her name with causes to help the cause. One day she walked into a room of an AIDS victim with TV crews, sat on the edge of his bed, and touched his arm. Great moment, would be better if no TV crew, no documentation, and a healing.
AC 4:13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
What do people take note that you’ve been with?
TV? Movies? Music? Credit card? Xanga/MySpace(/LJ)?
What about Christ?
The Father needs the church to show that we’ve been with Him. (We show our pastimes by the fruit we bear: peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, joy, love, SELF-CONTROL(, goodness, faithfulness. Against such things there is no law))
People began to ask, “What are we going to do with these men?”
Don’t be satisfied with giving the same token to these who need our help that every other person is giving. Go beyond that.
Story of a seventh grade boy who had an emotional breakdown. Ron couldn’t just give what the others were giving. He didn’t need another session, another drug, more therapy, etc. etc, he needed a relationship w/ Christ. 8 years later Ron finds his cell number and calls Jimmy (the boy). Jimmy got so excited, talked about how bad his life went after the psych ward, and how he went to Promise Keepers one year, turned his life around, was called into the mission field and was going to preach his first message soon.
Because more was given than what was expected, Jimmy’s life was changed, his location was changed. Even if you are ordinary, even if you are crippled, blind, etc. etc, He can use you. “Get up and walk!”
