17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."

So, Christ is basically commiting altruistic suicide here. I never thought I would go to hell if I gave my life for another person, but I think this shows that if He did it and still went to heaven afterward, so can I.

Still only applies to certain types of altruism, not "I'm tired of living here" suicide.

3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

1CO 10:7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in pagan revelry." 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.
1CO 10:11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Don't follow the wrong flock. If you do, your body and soul are forfeit.

Be careful that you don't fall, I've fallen because of being too confident in my own abilities. Trust Him more than you trust yourself--you let Him down, He doesn't let you down.

Take notice of what others' lives are like, and what these same stimuli that we battle daily have done to them. I implore you to read "Every Young Man's Battle" and to ask me for the DVD the next time you're in town.

Take notice of verse 13! When we are tempted, He provides a way out for both of us.

it doesn't make any mention of the sabbath
and He was taken off the cross and pierced on Friday because Saturday was the sabbath.

And besides, there's no way that it actually happened like this, Christ wasn't doing nothing on Saturday--he was getting the keys to death, hell, and the grave.
