White Collar Advent Calendar - Day 1

Dec 01, 2011 07:51

Let's start off the White Collar Advent Calendar with something vaguely Holiday themed. I hope you guys have fun in the next twenty-four days leading up to Christmas. And now, without further ado, I proudly present my entry for Day 01. (@Mod: Can you maybe create some kind of Advent Calendar tag?)

Type: Fan Fiction
Title: Neal Caffrey And The Gingerbread People
Author: TeeJay (tj_teejay)
Genre: Gen (could be read with OT3 goggles too)
Characters/Pairings: Neal, Peter, Elizabeth
Rating: PG
Summary: Neal helps Elizabeth bake Christmas cookies and puts his art skills to good use in the process.
Author's Note: Of all the strange places I've written fan fiction, this one was entirely written in Screen 6 (row 8, seat 7) of the Düsseldorf Cinestar theater while I was waiting for Breaking Dawn Part 1 to start. (Yep, I was there early, and yep, I took my laptop. Don't ask.) Fittingly, they played the 'In Time' trailer before the movie too. (Gets released in Germany today.)
Thanks to kanarek13 for the quick beta.
Disclaimer: White Collar, its characters and its settings belong to Jeff Eastin and USA Network. And, guys? Your characters are not only welcome, they're wonderful. I'm just borrowing, I promise.

There was something markedly adorable about Neal Caffrey with chocolate sticking to his fingers and a little blue frosting smear near the corner of his mouth.

Having just returned from walking Satchmo, Peter had to suppress a mischievous smirk at the realization as he eyed Neal and Elizabeth tending to the Christmas cookies with enthusiasm and fervor.

The house smelled of the sweet, cinnamony scent of baked delicacies and Christmas time. Neal was casually, perhaps uncharacteristically, clad in a pair of dark jeans and a light blue polo shirt. Ironically, he'd also donned the apron that Peter's friends had once given him that had a print of "World's Worst Cook" emblazoned on the front. Peter didn't quite think it suited Neal, owing to both color and statement.

He released Satchmo from the lead and sauntered closer, ogling his wife's and Neal's handiwork.

"Making progress, I see," he commented.

Elizabeth turned around, cookie dough sticking to her fingers.. "Neal's been a great help," she smiled at her husband who gave her a quick peck on the lips, careful not to come in contact with her hands. She added, "If maybe he took the task of decorating the gingerbread men a little too seriously."

Neal smirked at them both. "What, I'm just giving them a little personal touch."

"Why, what'd you do?" Peter asked.

"Well..."

"Come on, show him," Elizabeth urged.

Neal stepped aside so Peter could get a look at the tray with an array of roughly man-shaped, brown cookies, all lovingly adorned with differently shaded chocolate and colored frosting. Each one of them looked different.

"It's Burke's Seven." Neal pointed at one of the more petite ones that looked like it had long, dark hair. "That's Diana," he pointed at another one, "and that's Mozzie. Recognize them?"

Peter squinted his eyes. "Kind of."

"Come on, Peter, a little imagination, please."

Peter indicated the slender looking one that had a meticulously drawn suit with a tie painted on. "Let me guess, that's you."

Neal smiled rather complacently. "Yep."

Peter then pointed at another one. "And this is me."

"Nope, that's Jones." Neal indicated another one. "This is you."

It was the one that looked rather unshapely with a facial expression hovering somewhere between grumpy and austere.

Of course. Peter just sighed.
