3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?

Well, to be perfectly fair, I tend to use names based on location. So, for example, when I was working with my Aion characters (all Elyos), I decided that I needed to use Greek/Latin sounding names. That meant time to look up nice Greek and Latin names that I liked, maybe recombine a few until they suited the character. But when I'm actually just making up fantastical names (for example, my 'Elven' names in my OYaaD universe), I have the habit of simply picking a sound I like and making noises around it until I find something I like, then typing it out.

Good example of this is Elrohir, from OYaaD. I liked the "Elro" sound, and I just played around with it until I decided I liked the "here" sound at the end. Then it was just a matter of figuring out how to spell it. I came up with Telperiën (the Elven home world) the same way. It was just a matter of figuring out sounds that went well with "peri." Kind of strange, but that's how I think.
