If you DVR two hours of American Idol, you can get through it in about an hour and a half.
If you don't want to do that, here are my notes from last night's Lennon/McCartney night.
Syesha Mercado-Got to Get You Into My Life
Very pop arrangement, pretty average. I don't like her hair tonight. She looks good with it out and big.
Chikezie Eze-She's a Woman
This is Lennon/McCartney? He starts off Bluegrass, goes funky rock. Very Good. I think he's the star of the night.
Ramiele Malubay-In My Life
Kinda slow, kinda dull. Suffers from going after Chikezie.
Jason Castro-If I Fell
He's got some facial tics like Dave Matthews which annoy me. He's okay, very earnest singer. I like him because I don't think the fame thing will go to his head. He really doesn't seem to enjoy the non-singing parts of this show (kinda like I don't) such as the interviews, photo sessions, and background story clips. I don't think he wants to be famous. I think he just wants to sing. That feels refreshing.
Carly Smithson-Come Together
I expected this song from Amanda. Song doesn't really highlight her talent. Solid vocal, but I didn't like this as much as the judges. Doesn't matter though. She's bound for the final four.
David Cook-Eleanor Rigby
This guy needs Elton John's barber. He's clearly balding and shouldn't be doing his own hair. No bad notes, he's the rock star of the season. I like his take on old songs, making them sound very modern.
Brooke White-Let It Be
Proves hair and make up do matter. Just okay. I think she should play less, sing more. Not blowing me away with the piano.
David Hernandez-I Saw Her Standing There
He's all over the place--Didn't match the music. Ended much better than began.
Amanda Overmyer-You Can't Do That
To steal a Bob Ryan quote...What's the fascination? Is she scatting? Sounds drunk, can't understand the lyrics. She's too weird to win. She's so this year's Sanjaya.
Micheal Johns-Across the Universes
I finally figured out who he reminds me of. Mark Ruffalo. He's got solid vocals, but his showmanship needs some work.
Kristy Lee Cook-Eight Days a Week
COUNTRY VERSION??!? Oh. My. God. As the kids say on the interweb...FAIL! Music is WAY too fast. She says she did it for Simon. Did she not watch the show in previous seasons? Simon hates country music. GOTS TO GO. The person who loved this performance? Ramiele. I think it saved her ass this week.
David Archuleta-We Can Work It Out.
Forgot words. Worst performance for him. For the first time shows his youth. The most nervous of the night. I'm getting a little tired of his act. Men, even young men, should not giggle as much as he does.
