A while ago Jessica asked me to update my livejouranl. So I am. It has been a while.
In short...I am no longer working for Donna at Majestk. I had a fabulous summer and got an even more fabulous tan. I learned a ton about colt starting, and I turned out some really nice horses. One of the most difficult recently came back to me for a riding lesson...he had not been worked or handled in 3 months, and he was perfect. It is lovely to know that my training sticks, as that's one of the hardest thing to do with a horse. I think it's because my focus is on engaging the horse's brain and making him/her confident and secure in themselves...which sounds touchy-feely, but it's true!
I am now wortking at a coffee shop in a bookstore. I bake all the cookies, cinnamon buns, muffins, and scones. It's really fun. I work from 5:30 am to 1:30 pm on the days that I bake. It's a good shift.
Jim and I are doing very well. It has been a year. I never ever would have thought I'd end up with someone like him, but there it is. I think we have a good exchange relationship going on. He gives me fabulous sex, home-cooked meals, and something to whine about. I give him fabulous sex, endless amusement, and as many shocks to his intellect as he can handle in a 24 hour period.
We are going to his parent's place for christmas. I have three weeks off. On the last week I will be on Vancouver island. That's between the 28th and the 4th, or something.
Monzie is well, but very old and can no longer be ridden. He is happily holed up at Donna's place for the winter, and has his usual mammoth coat.
I am currently living with Jim...we are house sitting for the next 4 months. After that we'll probably rent a basement suite or something. I am still very close with JP and his brother Mark, who is a conservation officer who recently moved back to Prince George. They're the best friends I have up here.
It's very very cold. -22 today. Lots of snow. I love it because it's so beautiful outside all the time!
I have tried to start writing again, but failed miserabley. I think I need more time.
I am going back to school in September for my masters. I just got my notice in the mail yesterday notifying me that my application for a SSHRC (a $16,000 research grant) went to Ottawa. I am all but guaranteed the award at this point. I will be researching under Dr. Binnema on Bowron Lakes and Barkerville indigenous history, which is not only really interesting...but it's also a field in which there is currently a lot of grant money to be had,
:D
I am just finished Ann Bishop's Black Jewel trilogy. What a disappointing series. It's sexist to the point of being misogynistic. The sexism made me cringe all the way through...worshipping of men, denegration of women, over and over and over. The only reason I have gotten this far is because she does a decent job with the characters, in terms of making them seem "alive" and three dimensional (even though her male characters tend to be perfect while her females are always hopelessly flawed.damaged). And her world is very complex and interesting with a lot of background. Other than that...GARBAGE!
Thats it! I am off to shower. Hopefully I will write on a more regular basis. And on a more INTERESTING basis. I think blogging is another step towards being able to write fiction and poetry again.
