URG.  This project of Binnema's is pure HELL.  On a stick.

I don't think he really knows what he's signed us up for.  And I don't think the other people in the class really know what they're in for.  As far as I know I'm the only one slogging through the HBC records at this point, and I'M woried I won't have enough info to form a decent arguement.

Admittedly, once you get around the horrendous handwriting, ink-blotches, and frustrating lack of detail, they are quite fascinating.  There's a definite focus on weather, temperature, Indian traffic, and wind direction.  But I still don't know why, and I still don't know how I'm going to prove it.
You also really get a sense of personality from the guys who are writing.  Some are more literate than others, some enjoy hunting, others are more interested in the accounts.  Some you just want to reach back through time and strangle.  Others you wish you could hug.
There is nothing quite so frustrating as the stupid fucks who just write "Men employed as yesterday" fifty times in a row.  There's interesting detail there (there HAS to be), but it's been lost because some dude was too lazy (and/or illiterate) to write it down.  Gnarr.

Environmental hist is also my most entertaining class so far.  Yesterday we spent 40 minutes discussing Binnema's neighbor's lawn.  Apparently it is "grass on crack."  Binnema's own lawn, which they complain about constantly, is a dandilion plantation.  He plans to make dandilion coffee next spring.  He gave all of us the recipe.

Political Philosophy is RETARDSVILLE.  We were given a quiz on 'what is the "Question Re-stated"?' A concept we'd gone over before the weekend.  Unfortuantely, between last class and tuesday I had replaced the first readings (justice blah blah blah) with the last 4 books of Plato (moderation blah blah blah).  Last week had been completely lost to me.  So, um, did terribley on that and very thankful it wasn't for marks.  Anyway,  I aced the "Noble Fiction" quiz, so that made me feel somewhat better about myself.  Plato gives me headaches.

Oh, and new course started Monday:  BC Hist.  Pretty frickin interesting, and I think I'm going to be able to re-cycle some of my research from last year on the SFU crisis.  I have a wierd fetish for 60's social history.  ALSO WE GET TO READ JEWITT.  YAY JEWITT.  (he was captured by Maquinna's people on Nootka and wrote a journal about it, which I've always wanted to read).

And Sunday was the Poker ride.  My hand failed utterly, but I still managed to win a new cinch from the door prizes, so yay.  The horse I rode was "Kelty" and she was adorable.  There were some brutal almost-sheer inclines to treverse, and lots of rocky cliff-edges to scramble along.  It was a gorgous ride, and I came back feeling human again, which was nice.

Snapped some photos of the new house for the family, so I thought I'd post them here as well.  It is a wicked place, and I hope you're all jealous.

My screen is really high res, so sorry for those folks with low res screens...these photos will be pretty large.

From the front.  Yes folks, this is suburbia at its finest.

The living room

The the last picture I was standing beside that rail, facing right.  This is my front door.

The dining room (rarely used ^_^)

My favorite room in the house.  DO YOU SEE THE DECORATIVE TOWELS???

My room!  Yay tool! (disclaimer:  poster not actually upside down.  The same lettering is at the top, too.)

The left half of the back yard, through the window (don't let the sunshine decieve you, it's fucking cold here).
Also, my hot bod.

The other half of the back yard.

MYA!  Sunbathing.  Isn't she sweet?

Oops, I've been spotted.  <3

They like me so much here in PG that they named a road after me.

My Aunt's horse, Sadie, and Lucy in the background.

Saranede, the gimp.  As you can tell from this photo, the horses here have it pretty bad.

Kathy, whose son I had a crush on for like the first half of my life.  (He's rock-star hot).

My view!

More Kathy and Matt.

Big sky shot:  This is why I love this place.

Bums!
