I seem to have forgotten how bloody exhausting this teaching business is. Or else it's a combination of still being sick and the fact that my dim-witted coterie of last year has been upgraded with shinier, more active versions who just aren't content to research nice safe topics like Gustav Klimt or, dare i say it, Joseph Bueys.
Noooo, we need to study things like 'A Re-Assessment of the Top Five Most Influential Art Icons of the Twentieth Century', or Cy Twombly. We need to research 19th century symbolist painting so erotic it's downright pornographic. We need to bloody well redefine the very tautologies of modernist perceptions of the art object by fervently attacking Joseph Kosuth's uses of the theories of A.J. Ayer and Wittgenstein, with maybe a side helping of Kant because, hey, I didn't have nearly enough fucking reading to do already, thanks a whole motherfucking lot.
Actually, my not-utterly-brain-drained side is really quite proud and looking forward to seeing this stuff through. But a thirteen hour day of dealing with that lot is just a bit much. I want sleep, more gin, fresh vegetables back in my fridge, and time to do my own fucking work so i don't screw up my PhD application.
Speaking of which, I need a model for my first St. Catherine piece. I'd like to use one of the students. Is that, like, incredibly creepy/weird exploitation of the student-teacher relationship? I mean, she'll be clothed normally (I'm aiming for using the uniforms as a motif), but is that, like, okay? I really have no clue.
