The thing about growing as a person is that it requires you to stretch yourself beyond your limits. You have to take a good, hard look at yourself and see where you've fallen short and where you need to improve, and then you have to make the commitment to be better. Because it's not going to be easy. It never is.
The thing about stretching your limits is that it's a painful process. It's painful to see that you're nowhere as good as you thought yourself to be. It's painful to change, to make the effort, to stretch. But you think that you'll be a better person at the end of it, and so you stretch anyway. You push forward, despite the pain.
The thing about pain is that you don't numb yourself to it after a while, like some people say they're able to. The farther you stretch, the more you stand to hurt after you snap back, just like a rubber band. And if you stretch too far, you stand to break, just like a rubber band.
The thing about breaking is that it happens ever so slowly, and in waves. You're okay for a few hours, and then all of a sudden you just fall apart and become a mess.
I don't want to fall apart. But I will. It's inevitable.
Because I'm broken already.
