( thoughts on ouran special )
I...don't know how I feel about it. I remember stalking the blog of the scanlation group while they were working and reading their messages in the cbox and thinking 'wow, they're really negative about this.' After reading it, I definitely don't think it was as bad as they made it out to be, but I do agree on some of their points, mainly:
On a slightly related topic, I'm...a little sad, I guess, that Kyouya's off by his lonesome. Everyone in the group has someone - Haruhi and Tamaki, Hikaru and Kaoru, Honey and Mori - except Kyouya. Which...it's hard for me to see Kyouya in a relationship with anyone sometimes, really, but at the same time, I kind of wish Hatori Bisco would have tried a little harder on that front. He has Tamaki as his best friend, yeah, but now that the series is over, he's more of a third wheel than anything. True, he's still obsessing over family things AND THAT'S ALSO WHAT BUGS ME because really? 80+ chapters and he's still stuck to family things? HATORI BISCO, WHERE IS MY DEVELOPMENT? 8( Rawr. I just. My Kyouya fangirl is not pleased in the slightest.
Okay, moving to a slightly different topic - I wasn't exactly impressed with Omari's Sister's translations. There were quite a few grammatical errors which the wannabe English major in me cringed at. I'm sure most people don't mind,considering that a good population of readers are international and read English only because they can't read Japanese but...it's still painful. Don't most scanlating groups have a proofreader? I don't know, I'm making a bigger deal of this than I should. THOUGH I WILL NEVER GET OVER 'GOOD GOSH' COMING OUT OF KYOUYA'S MOUTH. 8| NEVER. I can sort of let 'oi' slide (a little) because I do realize it was more of a sound than anything and he was frustrated with the Host Club at the time but 'good gosh' does not pass go, does not collect 200 dollars. Do they realize how colloquial that is? Kyouya does not speak in colloquial language. Ever. He doesn't do it with Tamaki, his best friend and the only person he occasionally lets his guard down around, so there is no way in hell he's going to say it to some random chick he's known for a day. Man, this is what I get for RPing Kyouya. I get so nitpicky over everything. OTL
I can't really complain though. They got the one-shot out within four days of release, which is really impressive. I will just shut my trap and go back and reread it. And maybe edit my version into something I like better.
In other news, my retreat was amazing. I love my a cappella group so much. ♥

- it was less about Kyouya than it was about some random chick who will never appear again
