Travelogue 3 - Game Time

[[Apologies for Auction spam but it's easiest for me to avoid playercesting with a new entry]]Well that was strangely entertaining - I don't use my money for much else, so it may as well go to charity. I didn't win one of my bids because I ran out. Next time I'll be sure to save up more beforehand. Since it was around the time of New Year's, I felt ( Read more... )

better uses for money, right over her head, adventuring party, *event: bachelor(ette) auction, ! journal entry, celebrations from the old world, travelogue

Miss Rauxes, this is Stellaris, from Medical. It is good to see your writing. How are you?

Greetings, Miss Stellaris! I'm doing much better, thank you.

I'm glad. The picture they chose for you didn't really spell reassurance, if I may say. Have you started exercising again?

You needn't have worried - I wasn't sure what exactly they were doing. They just asked me to hold still, then like magic a portrait! It was very interesting.

Exercising, yes, training, not as much as I'd like - I kept meaning to ask Gai how he was feeling and decided I'd do so whenever we meet for this. I simply tried to think of some ideas myself in the meantime.

Ah, yes. I haven't seen a lot of cameras that work here. I would have to ask how they managed it for the auction.

[Though she wouldn't be surprised if the answer was another unexplainable Tree phenomenon.]

Gai made a very generous contribution, didn't he? I hope you two would have an enjoyable outing. Or training, if that's what you decide to do.

Cameras are what create the pictures then?

I was extremely surprised! But I appreciate the sentiment.

Camera is the tool, but what actually creates the picture is the interaction between light and sensor materials. Or light and materials used in the film and developing chemicals, in case of older models.

It sounds like alchemy the way you've explained it.

It's physics and chemistry. The term alchemy doesn't seem foreign, but I can't recall what it means.

Chemicals and bottles and materials and light made me think of alchemy. I'm not sure what physics or chemistry mean either. You're educated in more areas than one, Miss Stellaris.

Physics - a study of matter's interaction with space-time, mainly with energy and forces.
Chemistry - a study of matter's composition, structure and reactions with one another.
I suppose in the most fundamental sense, they aren't much different: Sciences derived from observation of nature. But they are useful only when the nature allows its pattern to observed with consistency. Which is not always the case in our current living space.

I am just an avid learner, I guess.

Are you a practitioner of alchemy, Miss Rauxes?

Those first two sound far too complex for me to understand. ['Wizard's work' but she can't remember that much yet.] And not exactly nature-based, to me at least. [That would be Druids and Rangers lol]

I'm impressed nonetheless.

I don't think so at least? I just know what it is, more or less.

In many cases, I think it's just different. Working in the Clinic taught me there are many methods of healing, some utterly incomprehensible to me, but all with the same goal.

That sounds about right to me as well. I can't expect a lot of things to make sense to me on a plane that's not my own.

I wonder if anyone could call this 'plane' their own.

I thought creatures of chaos or fey would be native to this plane.
