Fic: The Silence Before the Storm Fandom: Prince of Tennis Prompt: "Indigo" Pairing: Hint of Tezuka/Fuji Rating: G Word count: 1340 Beta: whymzycal Summary: Fuji ponders transferring to Rikkai
This was a really thoughtful and beautifully written piece. Kudos! I loved how you pulled in so many elements of the series without dwelling too long on them - such as the "ghosts" in the locker room and Fuji's relationship with Yuuta. Not to be repetitive, but you really struck the perfect balance between what was expressed verbally and nonverbally between Tezuka and Fuji. Even though I'm quite happy imagining a relationship developing between the two, your explanation for why their actions toward each other are understated fits the spirit of the original story.
Loved Fuji's mental comparison between being Third Place and Singles Three. That really conveyed such a powerful idea in very few words.
I would also love to know what was said between Tezuka and Yukimura about Fuji. Same with what else happened during Fuji's visit to Rikkai's campus.
And hey, I learn something about this fandom every day. I've recently read some amazing one-shots featuring Fuji playing against Rikkai players as a possible peer or sometimes considering joining their team, but I had no idea (as another commenter mentioned) that there was some basis for the notion of Fuji transferring to Rikkai considered by the story's creator. Looking back on the series as a whole, I'm pleased it didn't happen - I can't imagine the series without the Fuji-Kirihara match or the Fuji-Niou match. However, I'm a sucker for "what if" stories so I'd also love to see someone interpret how events would have shifted during the series (or even post-series, such as in a high school setting) if Fuji transferred.
Thank you for sharing! I hope you'll consider exploring other ideas in this fandom in the future.
Fuji is such an interesting character to me because he leaves me with so many unanswered questions. Why doesn't he play all-out? Has he ever REALLY? How good would he really be if he did? Did what happened with Yuuta have anything to do with it? It's like in a sense he really wants to win, but yet, he doesn't want to make the effort. He's got to be practicing really hard to perfect his counters, right? Then he does something like curling on the day they switch clubs because no one else will do it with him and he'll automatically win. Then there's his wicked sense of humor.
I also like to think that once Nationals is over and Tezuka can focus on something other than the team, that he and Fuji will have a chance at some kind of relationship. But with Tezuka going pro, I don't know. That could be a whole other fic.
Thanks so much for reading and for taking the time to comment!
