It was a busy one, and widely varied.
Saturday morning
hfcougar and I went to
Boxboro, the New England ham radio convention. It was... smaller than I remember. Then again, I've been going on and off for over 20 years, and haven't been since before I moved to Maine 8 years ago. The flea market was cool, though I didn't find a new HF radio to buy for the car within my price range. The dealer room was cool to see, and it was nice to twiddle the knobs on some nice new radios I can't afford. I pondered picking up an old 2 meter radio specifically for more power on motorcycle APRS, but decided not to at this point. We went to presentations on ARES and Skywarn. My "Snowtober" photos I submitted of storm damage made it into their official video of the event, which was pretty cool to see.
Then I went home, dropped radio stuff, grabbed LARP stuff, and went to an awesome shindig hosted by
vdansk for
Covenant, a game I'm casting that we're really really hoping to run if enough people express their interest in doing so. (Check it out - if you like it, let me know! Seriously! We need a few more people to say they'd play to ensure that we won't lose money on the events, and we desperately want to make it happen.) We faded in and out of character all day and night. Once the fire was lit, there was interest - no, demand for drumming, which I was happy to provide. I got to teach a few things, and pass various noisemakers around so whoever wanted to try could try. I had a blast with a really awesome group of people who I wish I could see more than 4-5 times a year.
Sunday, I slept in. Hey, I was up late Saturday with LARP folks. After lunch,
hfcougar and I went to a local SCA archery practice, where we learned that the bow and arrows she got a sweet deal on a few years ago were actually meant for me, since I shot even better with them than the loaner gear I used at Pennsic, where I absolutely did not suck. By the time my arms started to give out, I was consistently scoring with all of my arrows on the 20 yard target - not bad for my first shoot since just starting at Pennsic, and with a "new" bow, too. I called it a day, but next time I'll start working on the 30 yard target. I'm consistent enough on the 20 now. I'll also need a knock for my bowstring before I feel comfortable doing any timed shoots. I can find the sweet spot pretty easily when I look for it, but I'll be useless at speed rounds if I have to keep doing that.
Then an ice cream stop on the way home, followed by beer and porching. Pizza for dinner, then relaxing the rest of the evening.
All in all, a great weekend. It was quite full, yet I don't feel worn out like I do sometimes when I'm on the go for an entire weekend.
