Well, I was thinking feet-that-turn-into-paws, ie, someone moving from one shape to another, but that works too!

Balthazar makes me sad. :( But it had to be someone that we cared about!

And yes, I just keep finding it unreasonably hilarious when Gabriel makes sexual innuendo and Dean doesn't get it. :) Virginal!Dean entertains me more than he ought, poor boy.

SGGK's 1380s (though it looks older), so it's Middle English - actually contemporary with a lot of Chaucer's writings, but Chaucer had the advantage that he was writing in the London dialect, which became Modern English, so Chaucer's far more comprehensible. :) Of course, the Gawain poet was resurrecting a lot of semi-obsolete synonyms for commonly used nouns - he uses about 15 different words for man/knight/person, which gives him a lot more flexibility with his alliteration - so he's shooting himself in the foot there just a little in terms of being comprehensible to future generations. :) Which is probably why you don't recognise all the words - some words we actually don't know from any source but him, so we sort of have to guess meaning from context. Although knowing some Old English does help.
