This community and the fans have been kind of dead for a while, no? ;) So we thought a good idea to revitalize our love for Whistle! would be to have a series of discussion posts centered around each volume. The way it will work is something like this: every two (maybe three?) weeks we'll go through another volume and discuss it. This gives you

I'll be following your prompt questions because I'm kinda sleepy at the moment and my brain isn't working too well. XD;;;
Favourite parts - SHIGE'S APPEARANCE ♥ ♥ ♥ Sho eventually winning Mizuno's respect. Sho becoming friends with Oyassan. Sho seeing how fun it is to play in a team (when he and Mizuno and the others were practicing for the match against the seniors). Sho kicking ass in that match. Actually? Just Sho. Full stop. XD And again: Shige's appearance!! Although it makes me happier NOW, because Shige is my favourite character, when back then, it was Mizuno. XD
Favourite characters (at that point) - Mine was Mizuno because back then I usually liked the pretty boys first-off. ToT /shallow I liked Sho but he didn't actually really catch my attention until a bit later on, when it becomes even more apparent just how good-natured, determined and focused he really is.
Pacing/Storytelling - I'm biased because I think Whistle! has great pacing and storytelling. XD They don't take too long, and they're not too quick that it leaves people unsatisfied.
Naturally, the match against the seniors was an important one, so they had to devote several pages to it, but it's a good thing, because it really shows us how Sho and Mizuno are able to form a natural partnership and friendship on the field. The eventual trust and respect that Sho slowly gains is nicely portrayed, as the people who take time to understand him find a good friend in him, instead of just brushing him off as an unskilled wannabe soccer player.
Best Action Panels - (Can I go for pages? 8D) I have ALWAYS loved THIS page, with the four panels of Sho and Mizuno's faces. I love how in-sync they are.
Funniest Parts - For me, this chapter wasn't focused that much on humour, but it's okay. This page with Sho leaving his brother the what-the-hell?-breakfast always makes me grin, though.
And for some reason, pages 4 and 5 of Chapter 3, when Mizuno hits Honma with the soccer ball, amuses me. I think it's Honma's expression when he gets hit. XD;;;
The Saddest - Again, not so much a sad thing, but when Sho gets caught out as not being a very skilled soccer player on his first day was a bit of an "Aww :(" moment for me. He gets embarrassed, but then it's important to remember that Sho doesn't care about being embarrassed - he just wants to play soccer and he'll do anything to improve, and he doesn't care about his pride, so the embarrassment shouldn't be a sad thing for him. It's one of many things that makes him an awesome character.
Aaaaand that's me ranting away ahaha. 8D
Btw, we haven't got your thoughts on the volume, animegoil. D: Thoughts! Thoughts!! :D

You know, you're right, the storytelling is pretty good. It's quick, but not too quick.
Dude, I love the action panel in Whistle! ^_^ So good.
Yeah, Shou is definitely an awesome character <3 <3 I almost feel like he's underappreciated in the fandom just cause he's ...you know. not shige, not tsubasa, not mizuno. D:
