OOC: Whispered Girls, Black Technology, and You
What with the upcoming kidnapping, I think it's only fair I give some background on exactly why she's such an attractive target (and I don't mean her fantastic rack) for would be kidnappers and terrorist attacks in the world of Full Metal Panic.
Kaname is what FMP! canon calls Whispered, meaning that she was born with knowledge of technology that shouldn't exist yet hardwired to her brain. Said technology is what canon calls Black Technology and is inclusive of the crazy giant robots you see in the show. Essentially those looking to get their hands on her are after that knowledge. Unless you're a creepy silver haired fuck named Leonard who claims he's in love with her... Then you're just creepy and Kaname can't stand you because you stole her first kiss, you motherfucker. Ahem. Incidentally Leonard will be the kidnapper of next week.
Kaname being a Whispered is the whole reason Sousuke was assigned to protect her in the first place. Supposedly people born with the status are supposed to grow up to be geniuses. While Kaname is very good at subjects like science and math at school, the Whispered stuff is for the most part locked away in her self conscious. She's only ever tapped into it in trance like states during situations where there was extreme danger.
She doesn't like connecting with the Whispered part of herself. From the way it's portrayed in the manga and the anime, it seems to be extremely invasive, like having something foreign in your head talking to you that's actually you. Apparently there are also crazy hallucinatory visions involved that make about as much sense to her as they do to the viewer. Like random men hanging from a tree. Yeah. It's unpleasant enough that she's actually resorted to banging her head against a tree to try and stop it in the past. On the other hand she has used it once or twice to help Sousuke and herself out of some very dangerous situations.
Aaand that's about all I can tell you because honestly when it comes to technical details about the Whispered candidates, FMP! is kind of sketchy. I've always suspected that it's really just an excuse to draw Kaname naked. Regardless, it could be a nice plot point at some point when/if I decide to handwave it. If you'd like your character to be involved, think they'd pick up on the Whispered thing, or have any ideas, do let me know. I am open to collaboration and brainstomy things.
