So, easily my favorite spot in Portland is Powells Books. It's the largest new and used bookstore in the world, and is located right in our humble pacific northwest city! You can spend hours upon hours here, scouring the nine color coded rooms for literature. Its been around since the 70's, so it's fabulously worn in and smells of papery goodness.
I've been frequenting there since returning from Wenatchee, mainly because I have inherited no books from my new school and get to start my classroom library from scratch. It will be a couple years and much of my own money until I get a decent sized collection (I maybe have 25 right now), but Powells is certainly the place to do my shopping. The other day I walked down nostaglia lane and bought a few gems for the school year:
Hands down one of my top three picks ever. The first time I read this book I was laughing out loud at every page. Day in the life of an earthworm, told in diary form. Witty and HILARIOUS.
Memories! Mrs. Campanello, my second grade teacher, read this one to us. We loved it so much that we would go out every recess and play it, using tires for nests and rocks as eggs. Yeah, we were awesome like that. Such a classic.
This is just CUTE CUTE CUTE. About a little boy living in a drury city with no greenery or plants, and he finds a tiny bit of growth by a railroad track and loves on it until the whole city is spread with a garden! Fits my garden theme perfectly, and who doesn't love a red headed protagonist?
This is a book series following the boy Nate as he solves various mysteries. I bought six of them used for under $15! Short and easy reads for 2nd graders.
ALJADFKJASLFASLKA.... Jan Brett's illustrations alone are worth buying these books! Great tales and such gorgeous pictures. I also have Gingerbread Friends, Fritz and the Beautiful Horses and Armadillo Rodeo. <3 <3 <3
Soooooo super pumped! I've also been looking at Goodwill for any treasures I find. Discounts people, I'm a fan. Ok ok, so lastly. I'm suddenly REALLY into Sons of Anarchy. A friend has the first season and I can't get enough. Really well done drama and compelling story line. Oh, and it has Charlie Hunnam going on, oh meeee oh my. You do right by me son. I've never been attracted to bikers, but a conversion story may be near.
Meeting sisters and brother in law for dinner tonight! Going to a cute cafe for crepes. NOM.
