I can't help with your USB problem, but I'm sorry you lost your files. I had a similar thing happen with all my photos and Power Point presentations. I bought a new laptop a couple of years ago and backed up all my data from my old laptop onto a portable hard drive. During the setup of my new laptop, I chose to delay copying quite a few of my files from the portable hard drive. I figured I could just access the portable drive when needed. Then my condo flooded, and during the course of packing all my stuff so the floor could be replaced, I lost my portable hard drive. It's the only thing I can't find of all the stuff I packed. I just have no idea what happened to it. That was very discouraging and unsettling due to online uploads not always being available anymore.
Still, I've been playing regularly for the last several months, although I have completely lost interest in blogging. I too found Let's Plays on YouTube and I especially give credit to Ada's few but excellent videos for renewing my obsession for The Sims. Her Sims 1 Rags to Riches inspired me to install Sims 1 on my computer, and I tried several starting scenarios for that challenge, which was really fun and really challenging! I put the Pleasants in a small farm house, and I'd like to play them one of these days. Pleasant Sims streams are relaxing for me once I fast-forward to the playing part. I'll have to check out your YT recommendations.
I also got sucked back into my Apocalypse Challenge, which I started in 2009 (2 years before Mesa Vista) to playtest the "new" Apoca-Borg rules for FT and AL that Pinstar never updated. Things were going well before a totally unexpected tragedy happened when the founder Stella Terrano and her husband's ghosts scared their grandson to death just a few days before he would turn into an elder. It sent his wife Jan Tellerman into aspiration failure right before she turned into an elder, and OMG I was worried about have 2-3 angry ghosts along with Stella's platinum old-age ghost. After a few frantic days of dodging ghosts (they never climbed the second flight of stairs so my Sims huddled up there when they were haunting) and playing University, I managed to lift Paranormal and Culinary so the crisis is over for now, and I'm halfway through the challenge.
In Mesa Vista, I've played several new households and built a derelict apartment building in Barren Springs. The population is just short of 14,000. I have a few pics from each play session, but just can't muster the energy to post an update on LJ right now.
I'd like to read about your Coronas - I assume it's a Legacy? I don't have many Sims stories on my reading list anymore and it would be nice to have one to follow.
Best of luck, sending good vibes, etc on recovering your files!
Thank you for your thoughtful and chatty reply! :D I apologize for not responding sooner. Life got in the way of my Simming again. :/
I'm sorry to hear that you've also lost files. It's so frustrating and truly heart-breaking. :(
On a brighter note, I'm thrilled that you're still playing Sims! :D Bravo, you, for making progress on an Apocalypse challenge. :) I'm glad that you're playing Mesa Vista too. You mention installing Sims 1. Are you still playing TS1?
Thanks for pointing me to Ada and Pleasant Sims! I'm happy to find more TS1 playthroughs. They inspire me to play too.
I understand the need to take a break from blogging. If you ever feel like sharing again, I'd love to see more updates from your game. :)
Thank you for mentioning the Coronas! I'm happy that you want to read about them. :) I hope to find time this summer to get back into the game!
