Yay! We're finally back into the mythology episodes!
So much love for tonight's episode.
Oh Ben Edlund, I knew you wouldn't let me down. Especially after the craptastophy that we call the last few episodes.
It really doesn't take much for me to get the tears going, especially when I watch tv, but usually SPN doesn't get to me like that. I flipped through an episode list, and I haven't cried in an SPN ep since 4.03 (In the Beginning). This ep definitely broke the streak. I know I should be annoyed that they keep killing off all the female characters, but they did it so well this time that I don't mind. Props to Samantha Ferris and Alona Tal, they rocked their scenes. And damn you Kripke for killing them off just as I was really starting to like them.
I loved Jo in this episode, which is really saying something considering how much I hated her character in the beginning. Jo has made a complete 180 from her first few appearances - from the naive, awkward, and childish girl we saw in 2.02 and 2.06 to the collected and confident hunter we see now. Nicely done - I just wish they done that two seasons ago and given us more. (side note, anyone else feel like Kripke should stand his ground more for his characters? He's so quick to keep someone or write them out based on fan reactions).
Jensen was awesome in this ep too (as per usual). That conversation over the radio with Bobby was heartbreaking. And Dean's goodbye with Jo - *whimpers* Awesome, awesome, awesome. Those two needed more scenes like that instead of the awkwardness from season 2. In the end, I don't know who was more startled, me or my dad, when I started yelling for Dean to just kiss Jo already. That kiss on the forehead, the expression in their faces - beautiful. Oh and then how Jo died quietly on Ellen's shoulder, I'm tearing up just thinking about it, you can imagine how I reacted watching it.
Cas was awesome in this ep. Doing shots with Ellen, lol. And I know this is weird, but I LOVE it when Cas turns screws/door handles/random shit without touching them. It always gets a squeal and clappy hands from me. It's always little things that make the ep for me - I loved the sweep past the pillar and both Crowley and Cas disappearing. And I love that Cas can see things that the other can't. Those reapers gave me the shudders. Seriously creepy. Was hoping to see Tessa there, but no such luck.
Oh, and Cas not being able to burn Meg out - interesting. From the way he reacted, I wonder if this was a more recent development - Cas's moving another step closer to the future!Cas we saw in 5.04?
It took me a little bit to place Mark Sheppard, but my brain finally kicked in halfway through the ep (He played Sterling in Leverage and Badger in Firefly). That office scene cracked me up - 'right, you'll be needing bullets'. heh. Hoping he'll be back again.
Oh right, there was actual plot too. Glad Lucifer wasn't affected by the Colt, that would have been way too easy. Releasing Death - exciting, can't wait to see how that turns out. I find it interesting how Lucifer's vessel is already breaking down and how Raphael's vessel turned into a vegetable after a short possession, yet Jimmy seemed perfectly fine in 4.20 after a year with Cas in his body. Bad continuity, or a sign that Cas is significantly weaker than his angelic brothers? *shrugs*
