my neighbor has two children with adhd. I was their babysitter all through high school, and their full time nanny during the summer.
While they are very excited most of the time, adhd is not something that good parents wouldn't be able to handle. Most of the time, they are constantly talking, and they can't keep their eyes on anything for a prolonged period of time. As their nanny, I had no problem molding my abilities to fit their needs. They needed extra attention, and a firm calmness, which I was happy to provide them, and I wasn't even their parent.
There is no excuse for bad parenting. Children like I saw today are just an example of woman getting knocked up because they want a family, but just throw toys and a tv in front of them and expect that to parent their children.
Adhd is such a small minescule piece of the many numerous disorders that children may have. I'm a certified preschool and toddler teacher. I only spent 1 year in an actual classroom with kids I didn't even know. Each one of them had an individual personality, and differing difficulties...but with time and patience, I learned what worked and what didn't for each one.
Parenting is not a game. If you want to become a parent, well, thats wonderful. But its not for fun. It's a lot of hard work, and you need to devote most of your life to the growth and nurturing of your child. Disability or not, x-men or not, there are ways to bring up your child and ways to handle them properly.
The real issue here is with parents not caring enough to do what is best for their children.
