Okay, so obviously I'm not done with the Running Play verse yet. So I thought I'd whip together a bit of a primer for those of you who aren't familiar with gridiron/American football ... like I was before I started that monster of a fic.

My mom is basically the biggest Giant's fan. In the world. She's American born and raised, then moved to Canada when she married my dad and where I was born and raised, then we all moved to the states. She's into football and baseball, tried and true. I like horseback riding, circus, dance, theatre. I love being the freak of the family. Every year, mom throws this massive superbowl party, and she makes this enormous chart of bids like, who's going to score first, who's going to win, how many yards is the first play, etc. I always guess random couldn't-give-a-damn numbers, and I always win like a lot of money. Hah, I kind of loved football when we played it in high school gym class xD I was the quarterback! Apparently I can throw a football pretty awesomely!

I was shit at throwing, but I could always catch it. So I was the running person who would catch the ball, and then I would tackle people if they didn't throw to me. Whatever that means. Very, very fond memories. (My mom would be horrified to hear me speaking so uneducatedly about HER SPORT.)

This was actually really interesting to read. I want to go and watch football now. Or reread Running Play.

I immediately wanted to go out and start watching football while I was writing TRP. So of course I had to write it just as football season was ending. Darnit. xD

This is great! I've a few friends who are very into American Football (I'm Irish), but whenever I ask them to explain it to me, they just talk for ages about how it's all about strategy. So whenever I have to talk about it, I generally default to 'It's like chess, but with giant men instead of playing pieces.' This makes much more sense.
