wow, I am having such a strong angry reaction to how astoundingly shamefully fucked up the X-men movie was. I know, Hollywood right? I should have seen it coming. But number 2 was good, and the storyline is fucking awesome and has so much thick engaging fertile soil. Watching the film, really, was like a kick in the face. *hugs* to you Dan, sorry about the day ruining.
ryka and i also agreed that though in some ways entertaining, the movie was quite lame.
i thought the portrayal of nearly all the main characters was off. they tried to make magneto some cold dictator drunk on his own power (and failed to convince because we all know that he isn't), but they succeeded at making professor X look like a meddling old man who had lost track of the times, Jean Grey was flat, Wolverine was even worse.
my biggest issue: If you're gonna go and kill people off and do something as horrendous as take a mutant's gifts' away, have some balls and go through with it.
everyone with a major role who had died or "died" has some loophole for coming back. major major copout grossness. it had greeed written blatantly all over it.
and an even bigger issue: proud mutants stabbing another mutant in the back (almost literally) with the 'cure'??? talk about moral ambiguity! arg!
in the end i felt this awfully uneasy feeling of, they didn't know who to make the good guys, and who to make the bad guys, they botched it up soooo bad there because no matter who's side you're on you see that side compromise their integrity so far you feel alienated.
anyways, one more vote for "totally wasted opportunity"
