Dean Spade is the man to me right now... I think about class and capitalism and poverty and my life/style a lot and he is wrapping my mind around many issues I struggle with right now, giving me hella language... check it, tell me what you think: greed: end wealth now

thanks for this; i had a very interesting (read: disturbing) discussion today with a friend of mine (whose background is very upper-middle class), who was trying to tell me about how all smart people get ahead and that anyone can do anything they want with enough willpower...yeah. i think i handled it pretty well (she definitely "got" the example of...so, could a poor black lesbian be president with enough willpower?...) but i'm gonna have to think on it a little more and this is definitely helpful.

Hey dude,
I ran across your LJ and myspace profile today (procrastinating at work) and really enjoyed a lot of what you've been writing about. Up for a new LJ friend?

Hey Kael,

I would love to be your LJ friend. I think I've stumbled on your writing before as well.. Aren't you the Kael who's friends with Mea?

:)

hey dan,

how's it going? dean spade is a cool guy - i've enjoyed his writings for a while now. i don't think he's ever going to escape his sense of white, male, upper-middle class guilt. as in, even if he makes $6000 for the rest of his life, he's going to feel bad about his educated upper-class academic origins. he's facing his guilt in incredibly ethical ways, but it seems like it's going to be a tough issue that he's going to have to deal with for the rest of his life.

xo,
zarah

ps you totally rocked the mike last night. i am such an indigo grrls groupie, esp when they're performed by hotass trannyboys in lesbodyke-licious drag!
