Dominik Diamond - again.

Huh. Amazing what vanity searching and meta crawlers can do online innit?

I posted this last week in which I wasn't particularly complimentary to Dominik Diamond, ex-breakfast presenter on XFM Scotland. I perhaps didn't make my point clearly enough, what I thought at the time was that in the tone of his email (which I still feel was a semi- ( Read more... )

Hey, that is pretty impressive though that your blog is noticed by the (semi-)famous and powerful!

The email this morning really did make me step back and think. For all of the celebrities I've had the good fortune to meet in the past, for all the fandom sites I run, I've still always assumed I flew under the radar in that respect.

It just goes to show that things said online - even in unobtrusive places online - should contain as much human decency and common courtesy as would be shown to a person's face.

and I was joking with aditu_az the other week about what would happen if Steve Carlson happened to read either of our LJs!

Sheesh. That's a bit 1984, isn't it? You can't get away with anything these days...

It's not so much 'getting away with it'. I was a little rude about his email and I did so in a public forum in a way that could be hurtful. If someone said the things about me that I said about him, I'd be devasted.

I didn't think, and although I still stand by the reaction I had to the original email, I did objectify him and I wa hurtful. So I'm making a public apology for personally insulting the man. I still feel that his original email to me (the automated one) caused a similar reaction in me - I was insulted on behalf of the people he seemed to be attacking.

I've sent him the link to this post by the way. Just to let you know.

So... not a good idea to start writing anything scandalous? ;-P

No - I understand exactly where you're coming from. It wouldn't do to cause unnecessary hurt. I switched from Radio 1 because the DDBS was so darn funny. Oh, and cos of Mr. Moyles' obsession with the England football team during the world cup... Gr.

You just have to put your hands on the keyboard to write something scandalous...

You're the one who got me to listen to XFM in the first place, the music programming is the main draw for me it has to be said, but Dominik (and other DJs on the station) were good enough to keep me tuning in. And like I said in the post, they managed to touch on topics which brought things to the fore in a way I can't imagine any other light-hearted radio show doing.

Hee! I have to admit, I never once considered that this would be read by him - or anyone who knows him. And that's just silly in a way - everyone vanity searches on Google, it's something we all do. I mentioned his name, of course it's going to get a hit on a vanity search.

And Scotland's not exactly a *big* country, chances are he and I are only six people seperated from each other.

Thank you - you've just managed to put into words what I've now made two kinda long posts trying to get across.

Again - thank you!

unrelated note, this het fic won't leave me alone...

You do indeed have your uses. *nods*

It does indeed seem to be a blurring/confusion/disassociation of personas - and hell, with my mental health history, I'm the last person to judge that kind of thing. As a public figure Dominik has taken on that responsibility - he is 'more' than a regular person by dint of the fact that he is in (and puts himself in) the public spotlight. As you say, different people deal with it in different ways - Jensen is the perfect example of someone who has a very distinct dividing line between public and private.

I have a Word doc open and notes in my notepad. I think this will have to be written - evil het fic... Thank you! I may be taking you up on the beta offer before you realise it, it's kinda dark though. As befits evil SPN het...*g*

Must admit to being guilty myself at times of not considering that there are actual real human beings behind things that entertain us/frustrate us at times. Sometimes we go too far in condemning someone for the flaws in things that may not have been entirely their fault.

It's something I see a lot on the various comic forums around the net, and it's always, always a surprise when they bite back.

We're only human, alas. So are they.
