I'm reading this book called "Unsolved Mysteries in American History," and does it blow anyone else's mind that there were former soldiers who not only participated in the Civil War but who lived to see World War II fought as well?

Yeah, it's not that weird when you think about life spans, although to survive the Civil War (and its disease) AND live to be in your 90s or 100s is really quite remarkable.

I was more referring to the actual events that one would have lived through in their lifetime...going from what was quite possibly the nation's lowest point to becoming the most powerful nation the world had ever seen. It's quite remarkable - from slow-shooting rifles to nuclear bombs.

Yeah, that is really quite amazing. From Napoleonic style warfare to modern total warfare... that's quite a leap. And the technological advances! I can't imagine what it must have been like, going from a time of carriages and letters to a time dominated by phones, radios, and cars.
