Pet peeve alert!

Sep 04, 2007 13:02

After getting up at 6:15am and then spending nearly four hours in my classroom doing last minute crap for the first day of school tomorrow, I headed to the grocery store as I needed cereal and they had pints of Breyer's ice cream for 99 cents. I found 12-packs of Ramen on sale 2 for $2 so I grabbed two packs of chicken Ramen (mmmmm, Ramen...), got my cereal and my pints, and headed for the Express Lane, clearly marked 12 Items Or Less.

Butthead in front of me had 19 items. I counted because I cannot stand when people have more than the allowed amount. The cashier, who was a somewhat grumpy older woman, counted the items as well, after he had put them all on the belt. She pointed it out to the old man, who was an Indian senior citizen. He claimed he thought that his three boxes of plastic bags counted as one item, since they were all the same item. She kept telling him that they were each a separate item and he kept nodding and smiling and saying they were all one item. Then he kept bugging her about giving him his senior citizen discount and she kept telling him she'd do it once she finished ringing everything up. Then he had issues with his card because he wanted credit but pushed debit. THEN he kept asking her about some coupon that she had never heard of and she kept telling him he had to go ask at the service desk.

Serves me right for shopping on Senior Citizen Discount day.

As she was ringing me up she said to me, "I'd like to punch him right now" and I replied with a laugh and a smile, "Get in line."

If I had been in there any longer than I was, I would've lost that smile and exploded. I hadn't eaten in six hours and the old people were crawling all over the place, blocking the aisles with their bodies and their carts and walking slower than a tortoise stuck in molasses. I really must remember to avoid that store on Tuesdays.

And now my MP3 player isn't working. At all. Bloody thing might be dead. That ticks me off.

In happier news, My parents wandered off the Gettysburg for an overnight, leaving me with a blessedly quiet and empty house so I can relax on my last day of freedom before school starts tomorrow. I am bringing my books outside, taking a dip in the pool, then doing a quick list of what I need to do tomorrow with the kiddies. Then I am putting my books in my bag and not thinking about school for the rest of the day.

old people, technology needs to die now, pet peeves
