Pretty rain...

Finally, a thunderstorm last night. Unfortunately my movie viewing plans for the evening were shot down when the lights went out for four hours before 8pm. But the storm was awesome. I was on the roof right when it was rolling in. The clouds were trucking in with lightning lighting up the sky and the bats were circling above the roof. I found myself wishing I had a video camera with me because it would have been a great opening for a scary movie.

After a while I decided to come inside because I kept thinking about the guy a couple weeks ago who stepped out onto his deck for no more than a minute when he was killed by a bolt of lightning and there I was, sitting on my roof with lightning all around me. None too smart.

My mom and I stood on the front porch and watched the entire storm. It wasn’t that long but it was fascinating. The sky turned a weird yellowish color, one I’ve never seen before. You could see the yellow rolling in behind the black clouds. And the lightning, the bolts that I saw because much of it was behind the trees, was highly entertaining.

The lack of electricity meant firefirefire! I lit about a dozen candles in my room at one point just because I had a reason to. After it had stopped raining, I went outside and couldn’t believe how clear the sky was. The stars seemed extra bright. I’m definitely a fan of the night sky.

Eventually I pulled an Abe Lincoln and read for two hours or so by candlelight. No wonder their eyes were none too good. My eyes still hurt a bit this morning.

Two more days of freedom. This is also my last weekend of no homework. Sigh. Where has the summer gone?

The bird is serenading me. He’s underneath my desk chair, looking at his reflection in the metal legs. He must be the vainest thing I’ve ever come across.

mcgee, thunderstorm
