Fusanotsuyu “Misty Blue” Shochu is a Kuma shochu, or rice shochu with a distinct sake feel, but much more of a kick. It has a pretty, fancy blue bottle that stands out from most other shochu bottles on the rack. I’ll be honest, I was a little skeptical when I got this because it looked too ‘marketed’ and slick. These days we are hit over the head by so many energy drink’s with very slick packaging and it makes you despise the brand. This bottle does not go too far though, it is different but not obnoxiously so.
So how does it taste? I love sake with a passion, and this is an enjoyable spirit. The more I try it, the more I like it. It has a slight fruity smell to it, but is overall quite dry like a vodka or gin. I would recommend it to anyone.
Nose similar to sake with a hint of fruit.
Palette fuller than I expected, but dry like a gin.
Finish lingering, light and dry finish.
Proof 48 Proof , distilled from rice.
Overall impresion A great everyday rice shochu that goes well with most foods, especially sushi or salty foods. It is easy to drink it neat, but also mixes easily. It has an attractive bottle that stands out from the pack.
I have had a hard time finding the company’s website and any further information about how it is made. The brewer is the Tsutsumi Shuzo Co. Ltd. If anyone out there finds one please tell me.
