I wish that my next test would be for black, but in this art they move kind of slow with promoting people. Every dojo can make up whatever colour system they want; but because aikido depends so much on sensitivity to anticipating timing and force, you can't pick it up as quickly as arts where your focus is on producing force (i.e. it's easier to learn to punch somebody than to try to catch somebody's punch and turn it back on them with a loopy spinning takedown). But again, that's not to take anything away from any striking arts. Some karate schools are very traditional and demand a lot of patience and commitment while other McMartial Arts Schools are practically drive-throughs who give black belts to six year-olds. I think it's mainly because of the Karate Kid movie that there's a lot more of the latter who teach karate rather than other arts.

Too much information for LJ? To sum it up, I don't get any more colours before black, but I still have another two tests to go.

At our 1C06 end-of-term dinner with Savage, she offered to give one of the other TAs a one-hour self-defence class. I think that would be an awesome way to spend an hour. Anybody want to get together and solicit her for a session?
