So much for discipline Part deux

I can't work. I refuse to research on alternative fuel, even if it is a relevant topic because of the fuel crisis. The moment chemical symbols appear on an essay, my brain shuts down. Even Joel Stein's hilarious article on the Time 100 was a struggle to read because it involved statistics.

Eventually I'll get off Facebook and Gawker and get around to writing the damn thing, but right now I'd much rather blog.

Highlights of the past week:

- Jovinne got married! Like a fool I started crying the moment I saw the bride at the end of the aisle, then completely bubbled over as she walked past me, tears streaming down her face and that of her parents. Crying fathers, that always gets me. In a lovely turn of events, the video camera caught me and Dewi gushing and geyser-ing, which they oh-so-thoughtfully projected on a large screen during the reception. Ten-foot image of snot rolling down my face aside, it was a lovely, intimate wedding. Jovinne was born to be a bride and she played it to the hilt, all doe-eyed loveliness, dewy and breathless, swishing around in a frothy, frosting-white cupcake dress. Meanwhile, us single girls danced the conga, downed sweet white wine by the jug, and went for seconds on the buffet table.

- After the wedding we went to my old stomping grounds- the Pen (or The Pen as Garch would say). Coffee, cakes, ice-cream and tons of pictures later, we called it a night. Well, at least they called it a night. I hiked up my dress and hunkered down to Handlebar to catch Tempestuous Jones. Those Gomez sisters can really let it rip. And, oh yeah, the image of a sweaty, guitar-wielding Cowboy served as a reminder that clean cut boys will always place second in my heart.

- Drinking with the Frenchies again! Wednesday is officially French-Filipino Friendship day, when we get hammered together and make fun of each other's countries. It's the best kind of cultural exchange. Office Cutie's first complete Tagalog sentence: "Maraming pek-pek shorts sa Embassy!"

- Waiter at Bigoli: "So, tatambakan ko na lang po kayo ng pagkain?"

- Dinner at Mamou's and then drinking with Niche and Conrad. Batman-geekery ensued. We watched a lot of YouTube, ate a lot of leftover Bigoli, and finished two bottles of rum. Swell night.

- Oh yeah, and my dad announced he was retiring. Finally. When asked what he planned to do for his second act, he smiled beatifically and said,"I don't know." For someone who's been working for 30-odd years, it was such a relief.
