It's been a while since I've updated this blog...but here are some new reviews from the wonderful Mythos Mixtures!
Meeting Grounds
In vial: pretty green-grassy-leafy notes!
On skin: oh, this is very pretty! This is green, but not soapy green or bitter green. Not quite like mown lawns, but like crushed leaves and a hint of wild grasses on a warm summer's day. Maybe a hint of dandelion, something spicy, something almost like a vegetable garden (maybe tomato leaf or lettuce?), and definitely some herbs too. It's a warm green, heated by the sun, it's very outdoorsy. I don't get very much floral here, just a lovely, soothing greenness. It really is enchanting. After a while I do get a hint of something flowery drifting through the greenness…and it smells just like honeysuckle! Gorgeous summery honeysuckle mixed with rich greens. This actually reminds me of when I went on holiday in Devon a couple of years ago, the smell of honeysuckle was everywhere, along with grasses. This is one of the nicest green scents I've encountered. And no soapiness!
Feathers of Amun
In vial: freshness. Sweetness, dryness and air. Rain falling on sand where rain hasn't fallen for centuries, maybe longer.
On skin: oh wow! This is beautiful. Really beautiful. The first thing I smell is an amazing musk note which is golden and spicy, and rather incense-y. It reminds me of a BPAL, but I can't remember which one…maybe Devil's Night? All I know is that it smells like a sweet skin musk, or a velvety-spicy Egyptian musk with a smooth, almost downy-feathery feel and a little bit of amber sweetness. I also smell ozone. But this ozone isn't the evil, soapy/dryer sheets variety at all. This is fresh and a little lemony, cool and drizzly, but not stormy. It's like a cool mist sweeping over desert sands, a combination of the dry, golden, warm musk mixing with the cool airy notes which makes an interesting contrast. The musk merges with the airy notes even more over time and at times, almost smells like a lighter, less sinister, less dark Nyarlahotep. At this point I get a slight peppery feel, almost smoky, crackling over the smooth golden musk, but this then smoothes out into a lovely soft clean musk spiced scent. Along with NA's Pharaoh, this is another favourite 'desert rain' scent and I think I need to get a bottle…the musk in here is magnificent!
Belit Ili
In vial: honeyed figs and dates! There's a touch of smoke too.
On skin: honeyed fruit! This is gorgeous, decadent and exotic. The honey is the dominant note but it covers a layer of figs and plums and dates, possibly apples and pomegranates-lush and warm fruits. I also smell a woodsy, sandalwood like incense scent, a hint of smoke hovering over the honeyed fruit. Maybe a hint of resin too, and wine? But it's mainly honeyed figs on me, maybe with patchouli or musk-it reminds me of BPAL Hetairae or Skuld. This is gorgeous and voluptuous, it does indeed feel like an offering of honey and wine and incense for an ancient near-eastern goddess…there's also a dryness to the scent, like the desert. maybe something nutty as well, and something earthy. Over time this begins to remind me of another scent I love-Femaledictions Canopic. I know, that one was a stock scent, but this has the same spiced, exotic honey scent to it with a fruity musk undertone…and it smells a lot more complex and with more nuances to it. I don't love it as much as Feathers, but I'm very impressed and will keep my sample.
