She's Baaaaaaaaaack!

Greetings and salutations - the Witch has returned from from Waterloo, where she attended the Muffing Day party of the lovely lovecraftienne. Didn't get the previous memo? A somewhat hurried exit due to complications means this is the first you're hearing of the excursion.

The party's theme was literary characters - the Witch costumed herself as Elva from the Inheritance trilogy, and met up with one Eragon and one Arya from the same series. The Octoparty portrayed Nanny Ogg from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series - and met up with another Nanny Ogg.

We brought krynne's Jestergirl to the party, where at the ripe old age of twenty she was hit on for the Very First Time - by a beautiful woman, no less. The main point of going away to university is to fall in with a bad crowd bunch of interesting people, and we seem to have given Jestergirl a leg up there before classes had even started.

lovecraftienne and tickly_girl made an Important Announcement: they are getting handfasted next summer. Just before the announcement was made, the Witch, who had been aware of the engagement for some time previous, was asked to be a handmaiden - basically a bridesmaid. The Witch is very excited about this - the last time she was any member of a wedding party other than a bride, she was a flower girl - and that, friends and neighbours, was a goodly length of time ago.

tickly_girl was, regrettably, planning to purchase some substandard concoction from a store in place of a proper wedding cake - but that grievous situation has been remedied. No friend of the Witch gets away with a store-bought wedding cake! The Witch is thinking heart-shaped, three-tier, decorated in line with the wedding theme...

At close of evening, Witch and Octopal went to crash at the home of the beauteous quingawaga and her flirtatious mate zanate. At their home, when you wake up to birdsong, it's coming from inside the house. A special nod of thanks to these two, who took in Witch and Octopillow without knowing them from any other pair of weirdos.

Sunday saw Witch and Octopook relaxing at the home of lovecraftienne with tickly_girl. We all needed to unwind, some more than others - both lovecraftienne and Witch were having Bad Pain Days. There was food, napping, and a return visit from Jestergirl, but the general theme was Taking It Easy. The Witch got to spend a good bit of face-time with the Tickly One, less so with the Muffing Day girl, who was subject to some dissension in the ranks of the lower digestive. It is always nice to discover that a friendship will hold up under intense socialisation, and TG and LC have now witnessed the Witch before her morning shower, so there are few surprises left in store.

The return journey was yesterday. On the way to Waterloo, the Witch had neglected to place her neck pillow in the correct position before succumbing to sleep, and had consequently dreamed of having her neck broken for the first three hours of the journey. On the return, correct placement was maintained throughout, and the Witch's dreams were deeper and less painful over the full six hours of the trip.

It was a good time. A much-needed break from the Witch's daily life. Later today the Witch's five adorable-but-troublesome ferrets will be collected from the pleasant, resplendent and occasionally transcendent Ferty Godmother, who has been lovingly taking care of them during this time, and the routine shall be resumed. Hopefully with a few less bumps.
