Ive spent some time cruising around knitting blogs enjoying the great ideas and galleries. Especially enjoying the tales of gauge gone very very wrong and the agony of misreading patterns missing the small yet-oh-so-crucial-line : pattern is for odd rows, purl all even rows.... >.<
One thing that seems to be a common thread (pun intended) is the need to start your Christmas knitting early. Well I am doing my best. I had every intention of starting in September when the project was quite plausible. But stuff happened..... : (
As I said before I am trying to knit a blanket for my good friend Mochizuki san. Yes it must be a blanket because I don’t know how to make anything beyond a square or a rectangle yet. Plus I want it to be something nice and useful, I despise giving gifts with no appreciable use for them, just one more brick in the argument that Christmas is over-commercialized…. Anyways….ahem. I wanted to make something with an irish flair and looked up everything that had Aran in the keyword. I tried strip after strip of cable pieces trying to hit upon pieces that looked nice together, wondering why the HELL they are not looking like the picture in the book???!!! (Oh… ummm that would be because I started writing out the pattern to the XOXO cable and finished with the Saxon Braid…. Yeah)
All the while I was running out of Top Gear episodes and I was running out of time.
Finally after rejecting pattern after pattern I decided what I will use.
It’s umm the same pattern as my blanket of cable-y goodness. But this time I’m using much much nicer yarn!
Sigh...
It’s not quite what I had in mind, but the pattern suits the yarn and vice-versa and it is a pattern I am now very familiar with so I shouldn’t have too much trouble with it. If I knit something like 4-6 rows a day I should have a lovely blanket in time for Christmas. That is the kicker though. IF I can knit that much. That is between 600 and 1000 stitches a day - I don’t think I can keep up that pace for 3 days let alone 3 months. So here is the thing, the blanket will be 129 cm wide if my algebra is correct. Whatever length it is come December 25th is where I am binding off and mailing the mother fucker.
It’s a Race to Christmas.
On your marks...
Get set....
....
GO!
