Auditions, Masks and More

So time marches on and waits for no one. I have what I thought was my last ever essay due on Monday - but I just remembered that I have another after that due on April 2nd - ah well.

My audition for KWLT’s Radio Plays went well I think, but it doesn’t matter what I think, it matters what the Director thinks. : S : S : S

I’ve been in further contact with my high school drama teacher and at my offering, she’s commissioned me to create a set of 6 Commedia Dell’Arte masks; Arlequino, Brighella, Colombina, Pantalone, Il Dottore and Il Capitano.
I’m quite excited because one only needs and appropriate outlet and the creative juices flow I find. Fortunately Artstor at the university has a huge stock of the work of Jaques Callot who did tons of sketches of those characters. I sketched out Il Dottore in record time I think, and I snuck time away from my Theatre and the New Media essay to layer on the filters. I’m quite pleased so far, even if he is a dirty, dirty man. He told me to make his forehead good and strong, and that that wasn’t the only good strong head he had. And that as a service to the community he wants to open up a free gynecology clinic. : P Sometimes it’s best to NOT listen to what a mask has to say.

Battle of the Bards was fun, I danced a little reel - something I cobbled together at the last minute that I only hoped did not look so awkward as how it felt. Unfortunately there’s no Battle of April, come May there will be one, and if I’m able to get to it (futon Emi?) I’d like to have a romp with Dottore there. There’s a monologue that a friend of mine performed in our acting class that I think would suit him quite well.

So I’ve faxed in my entrance form to the National Speech Contest - which is held in Edmonton! Unfortunately it’s going to be quite a whirlwind trip. I’m flyign there the day of the contest and flying back the next day. But still the furthers west I’ve ever been in Canada is Windsor so I’m excited anyways. Plus Anton and another girl form Toronto who won in the Intermediate level will be traveling with me so I don’t have to brave the airport alone. Call me crazy but the airport scares me more than the trip does. Though I suppose that will flip flop once I get nearer to the contest.

And now I really need to get cracking on that essay or else I won’t be able to justify going to the ceili tonight!

Happy St - Paddy’s Day!
