AN: You know, since it's only a few months away this could count as an early birthday fic and I wouldn't be late for once! ;D
There were things Gambit just didn't do. He never bet more than he was willing to lose. He never let it get personal. And, he never, ever, under any circumstances allowed his heart to become involved. He promised himself long ago that he wouldn't risk it again. Not after Belle, the Thieves and Assassins, banishment... Then came Striker, Three Mile Island, Sabertooth, and he found he had no use for it anymore.
He'd done too much. Too much had happened. Happened in the worst possible way. It...wasn't worth it.
And yet...
Once at Xavier's, meeting Rogue, becoming an X-man...things changed. Unexpectedly, in this place, with this girl, he'd broken all his rules again.
