on a segway, at the speeds most of us would want to travel, the prospect of bending over to tie my shoe is terrifying. Smokers would be shot for tossing embers back like tiny depth charges to explode in the faces of those behind. Winter transporting would suck.
As for the train, driving onto a train to take me to a major city would rule....if they ran often enough. Our cars allow us to dictate our own travel times. Would I rather drive 3 hours to Phili, or would I rather wait in line for an hour doing nothing at all? If there was not enough space on the first train for me, would I be able to get out of the line to drive myself, or would I be stuck in waiting for the second train, which might not be for another hour, or more?
It would seem that perhapse a train system that ran parallell to the major intercity highways might be more feasable, especially if it were something you could merge onto - have a computerized accelerator network wirelessly with the train to match speeds (it sure as fuck isn't slowing down for you, and I don't enjoy the idea of a 100mph merge onto a moving train all that much)
