Thoughts and Observations on the "Riverdale" Pilot
Well, with my rant on Riverdale's treatment of Kevin Keller out of the way, I suppose I should give my general opinion on the show.
Going by the first episode, it's okay. I'm not particularly impressed with it, mainly because of the treatment of Kevin, but I'm interested in it enough to give it another chance. If you're interested, the third episode airs tonight at 9pm EST on the CW.

Stray Thoughts
- I loved that Dilton leads a Boy Scout Troop. I think it suits his character well.
- I was amazed by the changes to Ms. Grundy, but I also they her character was so different they might as well have had it be a new character. But I suppose that would take away the familiarity of the name, and from the ~edginess~ of it all.
- Veronica's actress does a wonderful job incorporating the sugar-and-spice nature of the character. I also love her style.
- On the other hand, Betty seems devoid of personality. I always loved her peppy personality and embracement of hobbies that were both traditionally male and female, so I really don't like seeing her so sad and distressed throughout most of the episode. She's viertually lifeless.
- Kevin's character aesthetic does not work for me. I know they're trying to go for that gloomy Twin Peaks vibe, but that ultra gelled hair and ugly sweaters does not flatter anyone.
Possible Comic References
- In the main Archie Series, Dilton and Cheryl once started blind dating online and then were shocked who the other was when they met in RL. I wonder if Dilton finding Cheryl is an indication they might have a romance in the show.
- In Afterlife with Archie (the zombie apocalypse AU), Jason and Cheryl Blossom had an incestous romance. I think the show might have them do same and have it be one of the big reveals about Jason's death.
- Archie has already been the main guitarist for The Archies of the main comics for decades, but the 2015 Archie Comics reboot brought a lot of solo focus to his guitar talent. His hobby in the show is almost certainly a continuation of him embracing his talent for music as he did in the reboot.
