Screwfly

Found this in a list of new releases carried by Netflix this morning:
Masters of Horror Joe Dante: The Screwfly Solution" starring two men, predictably. The Joe Dante (the Master of the title) is a horror director. The Netflix blurb is:
"Jason Priestley and Elliott Gould star as scientists racing to discover why the collective libido of men across the globe has suddenly turned into homicidal bloodlust. The battle of the sexes takes on a whole new meaning as the researchers tryto unravel the mystery -- and female corpses continue to pile up. Joe Dante (The Howling) directs this installment of Showtime's celebrated anthology series, co-starring Kerry Norton."

Tiptree's The author's name is nowhere to be found in the advertising, though a more reassuring review mentions Tiptree (without mentioning her gender): DVD Savant review by Glenn Erickson. It seems, from his review, that the male characters have been moved to the foreground and the female narrator takes up less screen time, but I haven't seen the thing yet. If I recall the story, it's the mass murders of women that first attract attention, not the declining male libido, but who knows. Points to Dante, if the second reviewer is correct, for selecting the story to begin with and for retaining its feminist edge.

Did anyone see this on Showtime?

ETA: I would have corrected this earlier but couldn't -- didn't know that posts were moderated and that I also would be blocked from posting again until my first post was approved.

The Netflix blurb doesn't mention the original story, but on the DVD Savant review, the additional disc information credits the screenplay to Sam Hamm, based on a short story by James Tiptree, Jr. The DVD, to be released on June 12, carries an audio commentary by Dante and Hamm and the screenplay is available on the DVD as well.
