JE no girlfriend rule

I was reading Jackie Chan's biography last night and was shocked by this bit although perhaps I shouldn't have been ( . .)

We'd thought about making our marriage public, but were warned by Willie and Leonard that any such announcement could have unusual consequences. They were right: when a publication in Japan finally printed the rumor that I'd gotten married, a young Japanese girl threw her body in front of a subway and killed herself. Another girl flew to Hong Kong and came to the offices of the JC Group, taking poison in front of Willie and a horrified bunch of staffers. She was rushed to the hospital and saved.

It made me think of the Johnny's rule that idols aren't allowed girlfriends. When there's a scandal involving a girl a lot of fans get upset or disappointed whereas others say that they're only human and should be allowed a private life. Originally I agreed with the latter but the thing is, an idol isn't human (ok I know I'm starting to sound weird here but bear with me).

Definitions of idol:
- object that people worship -business words
- A graven image or representation of anything that is revered -wiki

And you know most fans have never seen their idols in the flesh. They only have images. But I in no way see Jackie to blame for what happened to those girls. (Sorry, I can't seem to finish one thought before I go onto the next one!)
I guess it comes down to the question of fame and how much of yourself you trade to be famous. Our JE boys already work so hard that they probably don't have time for a relationship anyway. That's the thing - they're always giving of themselves, their time, their health. Maybe the management is the one to blame. They're the people that put these boys up on a pedestal and use the fans hearts as well as the boys lives to make money.

EDIT
I just re-read this and in retrospect I'm not sure what I was trying to say. I mean, it's not like I would have it any other way..
