i feel guilty for having an unhappy post up for so long. let's fix that, hmm?
yesterday was may day and berlin sure did turn herself out for it. to start properly, the night before may day is traditionally filled with rioting. came out of the arsenal theater (after seeing cabaret big screen style, yay!) to see a police van parked on the curb. which wouldn't be that odd, except you NEVER see the berlin police. it sounds like 32 people (or 32 people in one place) got arrested for riots, there isn't really a reason, the punks want to fight the neonazis, and both want to fight the police. so that's...something.
but the important stuff is how beautiful yesterday was. i don't know how hot it actually got, but it was Hot for the first time this year. i adventured out to the end of the S Bahn line, to the southwest of berlin where all the lakes are. my goal was to go to Wannsee where Heinrich von Kleist commited suicide, but wannsee was filled with tourist boat docks. so i backtracked to a stop called Schlachtensee, where i could see a park along a lake edge. and it was this good:
there was a nice little path going the whole circumference, with little openings right to the waterfront every few yards. lots of crazy germans skinny dipping and trying to work rowboats and lots of crazy european duck species, like this one:
what else could one desire?
